Former Mayor Scott Sessions Announces Candidacy for Mayor of Hillsdale
Sessions was previously mayor from 2013-2017.
Hillsdale—Former Mayor Scott Sessions declared his candidacy for Mayor of Hillsdale Sunday afternoon.
In a PS Political Activist News and Views YouTube live appearance, at the 37:50 mark in the video, Sessions made his announcement: “I am going to run for mayor,” he said. “I’ll be on the ballot, and I’ve been collecting signatures. I’ve been doing that since February.”
Explaining his motives, Sessions said, “I don’t like what’s happening,” particularly with respect to recent discussions about the roles of city staff and elected officials. “I’m going to run.”
Sessions’ career in local politics previously came to a close when he lost to former mayor Adam Stockford in a 2017 mayoral race.
Earlier in the video, Sessions aired his grievances against Stockford, for remarks Stockford made to the Collegian in a recent interview.
Contrasting his tenure to Stockford’s, he cited cooperation with city staff as a hallmark of his tenure.
“I looked to them for the answers,” Sessions said of his deference to staff during his time as mayor from 2013 to 2017.
The only other publicly declared mayoral candidate as of this article’s publication is Ward 2 Councilman Matthew Bentley.

It's interesting the divide in opinions about the role and job quality the city staff provide. To me sa lot of it seems semantics. The city manager is "strong" because council demures to him, and only because. I had thought COVID broke us of our addiction to flowing "experts". But there does appear to be a life stage or age difference in that opinion. Looks like the pay raise is doing as intended, its bringing out more competition to the mayor's position. Another great unbiased article.
