Tuesday's Primary Election Features Local, State Races
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4.
Hillsdale Community Library—Tomorrow, August 4, Hillsdale County voters will participate in Michigan’s statewide primary election.
Polls will be open on the 4th from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Residents of the City of Hillsdale can vote at the Hillsdale Community Library, and all other residents at their respective township halls or buildings.
Aside from numerous state races, the election also includes a primary for the third ward of the Hillsdale city council. The top two vote-getting candidates from among the trio of John Kast, Matthew Kniffin, and Amber Yoder will advance to the November 3 general election.
Gary Wolfram, who currently holds the seat, will not run for reelection.
Kast has told voters that he intends to use the council seat to bring about change and progress to ensure greater teamwork on council.
Kniffin’s stated priorities include road funding, electric rates, and scaling back the city’s involvement in development projects.
Yoder has emphasized the nonpartisan nature of city council seats and insisted that council can cooperate better than it has in the past.
Other Hillsdale County races include the Hillsdale County Road Commission, which has four candidates—Robert Richler, Gary Leininger, Kathy Schmitt, and Wesley Wickham—vying for two seats.
A smattering of other races, from millage renewals to new millages to township clerk elections, will be on the ballot around the county.
